HOW DO I HELP?
Is it really "pay what you want"?
Absolutely. If you are willing to put in the work with me, I will help you for whatever price you deem appropriate. If you are not in a position where you can afford to pay, I will still help you. There's literally zero risk involved for the jobseeker. If you only want to pay after getting a job, that's fine too. If money is tight, a nice testimonial is also appreciated.
How do we get started?
I usually start by asking the jobseeker for a resume as it's quite difficult to start a search without a resume. Then I request a brief description of the jobseeker's current situation. The more I know, the better I can help. Why are you looking for a new job? What's your ideal job look like? What challenges are you currently facing in your job search? Once I have some background, we jump in!
How do we communicate?
I usually deliver resume and cover letter assistance via email. I respond to messages within 24 hours unless I'm on a rare vacation. For more complex situations like search strategy, interview preparations, mock interviews, salary negotiations, etc, it's best to speak on the phone or a video call. I schedule those at a mutually beneficial times. I will keep communicating and helping until the job is done. But if multiple messages go unanswered, I will assume my help is no longer needed.
What do you do, and what DON'T you do?
I will help you with resume advice, cover letter advice, interview practice/preparation, dealing with recruiters, offer negotiation, giving notice, job search strategy, thank you notes, and just about any part of your job search where you might have questions. What won't I do? I won't do the work for you. In order to find a job, you need to be willing to put in some time and some work. I can't write your resume for you. I can't provide help without clear communication. So all I ask: make sure you truly are ready to find a new job, and make sure you are ready to work together to make it happen!
